I can tell you something of what's happening here in Ontario, if you know where that is in Canada. Our Co-op has been running for a little over a year. We only have one but then Canada is about 2 to 3 years behind the US in ratites. Our dues are $3,000. which can be paid in 3 year instalments. They are presently paying $5.00 lb on the hoof which would be pretty well equivalent to the US amount taking into consideration the rate of exchange. Even at that price we figure that we can make more from them than from cattle if you compare one cow, one calf, how much it costs in equipment, work and feed to get that calf to market against one emu
get them there. We are paying $11.25 for Purina grower and it is costing us approximately $12. per month each bird average for 12 months. Compare the equipment, space requirements and amount of work I think Emu win hands down.
