Old Zenith VCR/No response to Power Button

Old Zenith VCR/No response to Power Button

I have an old Zenith VCR, model VR2000.  It was made around 1984,
and had been a heck of a workhorse.  Recently, it was having problems
rewinding and now even playing some tapes.

I took it apart to check out belts, etc.  After reassembly, I plugged
the unit in.  The clock flashed, etc.  When I try to hit the power
button, however, nothing happens.  It took a tape and loaded it,
although now I cannot eject it.

I know the FAQ says there are no lockout mechanisms, but there
are a couple of wires attached to to the connectors for the top and
bottom covers.  This unit was manufactured by JVC.

Please help,
Dave

try lubricating the big cam wheel with a little WD-40
this can be done without dissasembling anything
the old lubrication looses its slippery properties and
becomes like glue...a litttle WD-40 will reactivate the old lubricant
....ive never done one twice....

Maybe I'm just different, but I've disassembled these, relubed them, then
reassembled them. <G>

However, this problem causes the unit to shut down...
