Sanyo DCX-2300K Receiver with No Sound

Hi there,

I have a Sanyo DCX-2300K solid state AM/FM receiver that suddenly
stopped working.  No sound can be heard on either the left or right
channel on either speaker bank.  The console lights up properly, so I
don't think it's a power problem.  Since neither channel works, I
don't think it's the output amplifiers (since it's unlikely that they
both failed simultaneously).  There is a "tape recorder output" jack
that is directly connected to the selector switch output; if I plug a
source into the auxiliary input it seems to output clearly on the
recorder output.  If I plug the same source into the "phono" input
then the recorder output is very distorted (it sounds scratchy, and
the volume wanders).  There are no obviously burnt or damaged
components inside.  The fuses are fine.

My best guess is that something has gone wrong on the circuit board
that controls the balance, bass, treble etc.  (There's a number marked
on this board,  4-2269-21732, I don't know if that helps or not).
Does anybody have any advice on how to proceed?  I don't have any
schematics or circuit diagrams for this unit, unfortunately.

Thanks for your help!

- Andrew

You are going to have to do some basic audio circuit troubleshooting
and tracing.

It is  probable that the outputs failed on one of the channels.  Since
they use some kind of power protection, they may have opened up a
hidden fuse killing power to both, or the protect relay is simply not
engaging.

The distortion with the phono input is normal. Phono inputs have different
input impedances and much smaller voltages than any other input (aux,
tape,...), not to mention the inverse RIAA filter.
