Checking transistors, SCR, and Triac with Heathkit IT-121
Good morning,

I recently acquired an Heathkit transistor tester IT-121
without a user manual. The instruction on the back of this
tester shows how to get the Beta of transistor, and I do
not know how to perform the leakage test. Could somebody
kindly tell me how to do the leakage test as well as
testing SCR and triac ? or point me to a website where
this information can be found ? I think that this tester
is quite old, and the information of how to use it should
be made available for those who are the second owners of
this tester. Once, I have the information, I will post it
on this newsgroup for the benefits of all news readers.

Thank you in advance.

I think that's the one that I have, but I stuck it away for a number of
years.  Today, almost all silicon transistors have negligible leakage,
so it's not worth measuring.

As for SCRs and TRIACs, they can't be measured as such with a transistor
checker.  You can put them in a simple circuit and trigger tham, and
find that they work okay.  That's probably all the tester does.

I'll see if the manual is still around.

Good afternoon,

This is a repost because I have not seen any reply. My news server
was down due to the recent outspread of the bug, and I may not have
read the reply.

Thank you for your help.
