 need info re ostrich ranch
I'm doing research for a friend who wants to look into raising ostriches
on her land in California as a business.  If someone has any info or
suggestion where I can start looking for:

Sources for ostriches
Weather /climate required
Other farms that are successful at raising these birds, etc.

Thank you in advance for reading this message.

I'd be curious to find out if anyone raising ostriches/emus/etc. is
actually selling their birds to anyone other than prospective breeders
of the same species. In other words, I suspect its all a big ponzi
scheme that will fall of its own weight when everyone discovers that
there's no demand for the products of these critters.

Am I wrong?

Well, that is a question some of us are asking very seriously indeed
here in Australia. A breeding pair of emus can hatch anything up to
30 eggs per annum, and with the NSW quotas set at 40 pairs for each
breeder, that's producing up to 1200 birds per quota per annum with no
advance orders for anywhere near those numbers firming up at all, for
breeding stock or production.

Over here in Western Australia, young breeding-stock ostriches are
currently being valued at around $22,000 per pair, with a similar
prospect.

In the meantime, deer are now down to around $50.00 each here, weaner
pigs less than $20.00, you name it.

Follow the markets for yourselves . . .
