FGCS'92 - CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
----------------------------------
International Conference
on
Fifth Generation Computer Systems 1992
Tokyo, Japan
June 1-5, 1992
The Fifth Generation Computer Systems (FGCS) project was started
in 1982 to make a revolutionary new type of computer oriented to
knowledge information processing in the 1990s. After completing the
initial and intermediate stages of research and development, we are
now in the final three-year stage of our ten-year project, putting on
a spurt to complete our prototype Fifth Generation Computer Systems.
The research goals of the FGCS project were challenging, but we
are achieving most of them. We have developed a new paradigm of
knowledge information processing including the parallel logic
language, KL1, and the parallel inference machine, PIM. There has
been intense international collaboration such as joint workshops with
France, Italy, Sweden, the U.K. and joint research with U.S. and
Swedish institutes on parallel processing applications.
With this background, ICOT will host the International Conference
of Fifth Generation Computer Systems 1992 (FGCS'92). This is the last
in the series of FGCS conferences; previous conferences were held in
1981, 1984 and 1988. The purpose of the conference is to present the
final results of the FGCS project, as well as to promote the exchange
of new ideas in the fields of knowledge information processing, logic
programming, and parallel processing.
FGCS'92 will take place over five days. The first two days will
be devoted to the presentation of the results of the FGCS project, as
well as to invited lectures by leading researchers. The remaining
three days will be devoted to technical sessions for invited and
submitted papers and panel discussions. Throughout the conference
period, a number of demonstrations will be given on the core
technologies of the Fifth Generation Computer Systems and their
application in various areas. Most of the demonstration will be given
using the parallel inference machine prototype system that we are now
completing.
We believe your participation in FGCS'92 will deepen your
understanding of Japan's Fifth Generation Computer Systems project.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to broaden your
perspectives on the related technologies of other countries and to
enjoy discussions with the World's researchers in this field.
We look forward to meeting you at the conference.
