Well, in *general*, an "image" is a *pattern* of varied intensities,
isn't it? Are you actually referring to the area of the retina
subtended by such an image, or are you restricting the designatum of
your term 'image' to be only an area on the retina exposed to a disc
(?) / blotch (?) of increased light intensity?
