 3D Ultrasound imaging...

Dear all;

Several volume rendering methods have been developed for CT, MRI, and pet in
recent years, but, a very limited research has successfully done on applications
of volume rendering of ultrasound imaging...

one of the problem is about overcoming
severe noise from 2d ultrasound images by using conventional linear ultraound
transducer...

another problem is about accurate data acquistions in the third
direction...

we have designed a new type of 2d ultrasound transducer in recent
time, which has a 4*20 arrays, it can focusing not only in original 2d plan, but
also in the third direction ( for reducing the thickness in the direction), we
try to concentrite above two problems...

Does anybody has experiences in solving the problems?
Does anbody know who has experience in the related issues?
Any suggestions and any comments are appraciated!

Hot topic, just about everyone in the business is working on these
devices.  Probably not many willing to talk much about them.  I 'm working
on a 5x96 linear array, at this level they are really more 1.5 D arrays.
I can discuss general transducer topics but not a great deal of specifics
on these.

I heard that one of the universities in the the US was developing a 3D
transducer (multiple linear arrays in one transducer). It might have been
Duke University? I heard the problem is the massive amount of computer
power that has to be applied to process the data. If your one line array
can steer into the other dimension then you help solve some computation
problems, but you would have a volume that has time differences between
the first direction of the steering and the last.

A second alternative is to investigate optoelectronic processors that can
supply the computer power in compact, relatively inexpensive form.  We
have  a prototype undergoing tests now.  It is planned for commercial
release late this year.  If you'd like more information and reference to
technical papers, please email directly to me.
