Is there any evidence that sociopathy is genetic, or a chemical imbalence, or
is it just a result of child abuse?

Probably a combination of all the above. It runs in family along with
{*filter*}ism and other psych disorders. I would not be surprised if
adoption studies confirmed a genetic tendency (I don't know of any
studies). No known chemical abnormality shown, but suspected. Bad genes
is likely to lead to bad childhood for the next generation; so it is a
double whammy.

        Researchers such as Hare seem to think it's a combination of things.

For a while not long ago,  some researcher was hot on the trail of the
"novelty-seeking" gene,  which was associated with sociopathy.  Not that I
remember so good,  but it didn't seem to pan out in the end...
