 NEW SSRI
I have just tried a new SSRI called Meridia. It really increases my energy. After just two days, I haven't felt the overwhelming, need to take an afternoon nap and I've been getting things done that I've put off for ?????. It also reduces you appetite. Too good to be true?? I'll keep you posted. Bob

It's not an SSRI, as it is not "selective." It's most closely related to Effexor, both structurally and pharmacologically. Glad you're liking it, though. -elizabeth

Elizabeth: Thanks for the info. It does seem to increase my energy level, which I definetely want and doesn't seem to have the libbido trashing effect of the other reputake {*filter*}. I am, however, not quite as "mellow" as when I was taking just Zoloft, but it's nice to be getting things done! Bob Quote:

I don't understand why it would be any more habituating than Effexxor. Could you tell me more? Bob

I doubt that it's habituating, seeing as it works pretty much like Effexor. No clear reason why it was placed in Schedule IV except for the indication (weight loss, rather than depression). Please don't send messages like this without facts to back them up, eh? It could scare people unnecessarily. -elizabeth

If your speaking of Meridia the commercial on tv indicates it may be habituating. However the commercial doesn't specifiy if it is a physcial dependence or emotional. Jackie

Thanks for the reply Jackie: The problem with disclaimers is that in an attempt to ward of possible law suits, companies tend to cover everything to cover themselfs. No one looks at the warning label on a step ladder because the do's and don't are so obvious. But I suppose that anything that makes you feel better can be "additicting" in some way. I'm wondering how this drug differs from Effexor, which tended to give me headaches. I went without lunch today without even thinking about it. Now, thats just not like me. Bob Quote:

If you get headaches from Effexor, you may want to avoid Luvox too. It's a bad SSRI for causing headaches. (I believe the prevalence is about 30% on it.) So what is Meridia? An SSRI agonist? Emma :)

It is a seratonin and noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor. Bob

For those of us in other countries, other than the USA, can someone tell me its generic name. It is likely to be released elsewhere under another brand name. --
