citations ibogaine containing plants other than T. iboga

Report on Botanical Papers relating to Plants other than Tabernanthe iboga
which contain ibogaine by W.J. Gladstone, copyright 1999.

1)  "Alcaloides du Daturicarpa Elliptica Staph", J. Bruneton et al., Plantes
Medicinales et Phytotherapie, 10(1):20-23, 1976.

This plant (Specimen collected in the Congo Republic) is very similar to
Tabernanthe iboga from which it can only be distinguished through secondary

Total alkaloid content of root bark: 5.6% (of which about 80% is ibogaine).

Total alkaloids content of stem bark: 2.4% (of which about 80% is ibogaine).

2)  "Contribution a l'etudes des Tabernaemontanees americaines".  IV.
Alcaloides de Pesciera Echinata, N. Ghorbel et al.

This American plant grown in French Guiana (or Guyana), from which 24 alkaloids
including ibogaine were isolated, has the following total alkaloids content:

Stem bark:  10 g/kg;  root bark: 1.26 g/kg; leaves: 20.4 g/kg.  The percentage
of ibogaine is not specified.

3)  "Alcaloides de Tabernanthe pubescens", T. Mulamba et al.

In a sample collected in Zaire, the total alkaloids gave the following yields:

Fruits, 8 g/kg; leaves, 8 g/kg; stem bark, 21 g/kg (i.e., 2.1%), root bark 56
g/kg (i.e., 5.6%).

The total alkaloids of the stem bark and of root bark contain ibogaine.

4)  "Alcaloides du Pandaca speciosa", M.D. Levy et al.

This plant grows in Madagascar.  The total alkaloids yields were:

Stem bark 21 g/kg (2.1%) of which 20% was ibogaine.
Root bark: 31 g/kg (3.1%) of which 30% was ibogaine.
Leaves:        9 g/kg (0.9%)

5)  "Alcaloides du Pandaca eusepala", F. Quirin et al.

In this plant from Madagascar, the yields were in terms of total alkaloids:

Stem bark:  19 g/kg (1.9%), leaves 8.5 g/kg,
root bark 28.5 g/kg (2.8%) including 15% ibogaine.

6)  "Phytochemical Investigation of Tabernaemontana crassa, T.A. Van Beek.

In a specimen of this plant which occurs widely in tropical Africa from Sierra
Leone to Uganda in the North and Angola and Tanzania in the South, 800 grams of
stem bark yielded 12 mg of ibogaine.
