Prozac = bad for Diabetes?

 Prozac = bad for Diabetes?

Prozac may elevate {*filter*}-sugar levels in normal and diabetic patients.

if yer an endocrinoline or a p-shrink or both, be aware of the
cross-disease dosing adn interactions, if you please.

zyprexa has also been rumoured to encourage dka (diabetic ketoacidosis)
in people who are "almost"  or "pre" diabetic.

and if yer on either, have your kidneys and {*filter*} sugar and ketone
levels checked
monthly at the minimum, more often if you are diabetic or have history
of any kind of behavior/medical-history that mighta taxed yer kidneys or
pancreas or liver.

this is just a warning from a lunatic watching other lunatics drop.

i guess such a warning should go with any anti-deep/psychotrop and any
metabolic disorder...and hi ketones or {*filter*} sugar can cause depression,
disorientation, stupor, psychoses-on-a-good-day, etc.... it's just the
specialists don't always drive with both eyes open and the rear view
mirror in place.

happy trails.

I would say that rather than being frightened, people should be AWARE. For
me, the prozac (now no longer being taken by me) did indeed raise my BG
levels and my insulin had to be adjusted to accommodate. When I stopped
taking it, I had to reduce my doses correspondingly.

It would appear that, as with many "side effects", they're very much
dependent on the individual.

I've been on Zoloft, a near cousin of prozac and have had no problems with
my {*filter*} sugar.  Depression effects a number of physical problems, ie,
sleep, appetite, energy, etc., all of which can affect eating habits and
other life style components.  An increase in {*filter*} sugar may be a function
in an overall change in mood, behavior, and habits as the depression lifts.
It might not have been effected by the prozac itself.

I have not seen this as problem in several diabetics on Prozac. In fact,
one bulimic girl with poorly controlled diabetes had much better BSLs on
Prozac to which she had an excellent anti-depressant and anti-bulimic
response.
