OK so these brilliant researchers believe that TNF-alpha just suddenly
increases for no reason? Instead trying to find WHY TNF-alpha is elevated,
just block it - its more profitable for the drug companies that way, since
patients will have to take the blocker for life. If TNF-alpha has increased
due to an infectious agent, then blocking it could potentially make the
infection worse. Sounds like corticosteroids deja-vu.
Of course, I'm sure there are instances when reducing TNF-alpha is
desirable, but just to say "its elevated relative to the controls therefore
block it" is just as silly as telling a guy with 101 degree fever to take a
cold bath to lower his temp to normal.
