A friend's mother has used "Transderm Scop" brand of
transdermal scopolamine ear patches for her severe air
sickness for several years, but has now been told they are
no longer available in the U.S. market.  Does anyone know
where this medicine can be found in the U.S.?  Is it
available in Canada?

Yes, it is available in Canada under the trade name TransDerm V,
also made by Ciba.  As far as I know it's still available.
However, less than 2 years ago, it was backordered for over 1 year!

There's a 1-800 number for the current availability (or should that be UNavailabililty) status of Transderm-Scop patches.  I'm sorry that
I don't have the number now, but I'm sure someone at Ciba could provide it.  However, I did call this number a couple of days ago
and it seems that the patches will remain unavailable in the U.S. for the (at least) near future.  They did mention that they were
working dilligently to get them back on the market, but were unwilling to specify a target date.

As I recall, the problem leading to the recall of Transderm-Scop patches had to do with the transdermal release system---I beleive
there were some crystal formations or some such thing.
