 Dexedrine vs. Desipramine

Anyone familiar with the differences between Dexedrine and Desipramine
(Norpramin) with their use in the treatment of ADD in children, and in
particular, their likelihood of causing or exacerbating tics?

Both can cause and exacerbate tics.  You will not know if it will cause a
tic until you try it.  It is not a common side effect.  Dexedrine is a
stimulant with a generic name of dextroamphetamine.  If it is going to work,
it should work the first day you try it, provided that the dose is high
enough.  Desipramine may take 2 to 4 weeks before you will see a result.  You
should do EKG monitoring in children, since with this group of {*filter*} there has
been reports of sudden deathes due to cardiac abnormailities.  Dexedrine
usually has better results in treating ADD.
