How difficult can it be to get a prescription for this?
Surely less difficult than trying to get it without one.

If you want brand then you will most likely have to pay for it yourself.
The doctor can write anything.... the HMO restricts what brands are given.
If you want a specific brand and your HMO denies it.... then  you'll just
have to pay cash for it.

THE PRESCRIPTION IS THE PROBLEM, NOT THE CASH.

Why do you think you need Armour Thyroid?  Are  you hypothryroid based on
lab tests? Or do you have some other reason?

i do not think i need, i know i need. who are you?
this was prescribed to me when i had a doctor.
one who taught that if he did his job, i would not
need him. he was in preventive medicine. he is retired.
and now my insurance is hmo. socialized, communist
medicine. they do not treat the cause, they treat the
affect; high cholesterol. my basal temperature in the
am is 1.0 degrees below normal. i am hypothyroid.
it runs in  the family. it killed my father at 41. i want
armour because it works and it is natural. now please
tell me who wants to know these questions you are
asking.

Well, they're apparently not helping _your_ affect.
Have you considered seeing a psychiatrist to prescribe
you the Armour Thyroid?

I am a pharmacist who has seen thyroid medications abused.  Raising BMR can
cause weight loss in a normal patient.  We had a quack doctor out here who
was putting patients on thyroids for that purpose.  That is why I asked.  As
far as getting the Brand name I am also the one that said you can get it if
you are 1. willing to fight the HMO on it with a concerned doctors help....
or pay for it yourself... it is not that expensive compared to a lot of
other {*filter*}.  I have gone up against HMOs many times and have won more than
my share.  But it takes time and it takes persistance.  An argument that you
can use is that your levels are already controlled on Armour and by
switching to a generic or levothyroxine it might take several months and
several lab tests to get you back under control.  Please leave your attitude
off the keyboard.

i appreciate your response. my weight does not go down with almost anything i
do.
been staying at 185, and i am 5'11. not fat just over weight. yes there are
quacks.
yes, i am fighting the hmo and winning. i have a referral to see an endo that
deals in
preventive medicine. you said, the other alternative was to pay for it myself.
how?
i need the prescription, right? the fight i will win one way or another.
although, it is
bad to have to pay my insurance bill, and fight too. my attitude will be
expressed
on the keyboard or off. i am frank, whether anyone likes that or not, is their
call.

You have to pay a brand name copay for brand name {*filter*} - right?
Armour thyroid retails for less than most brand name copays.
I don't see what an HMO has to do with it.

So go to another doctor and get one! If you used it before, surely your
old doctor can refer you to an intelligent and sympathetic colleague??
