Another Olmec style monument uncovered at Chalcatzingo
Listeros,
INAH has uncovered another huge Olmec style monument at the site of
Chalcatzingo in Morelos. The monument is a giant cylindrical altar
with a bowl carved out of the center as a rain receptacle. The object
is dated to 800-500 BCE and has cloud droplet designs that are Olmec
in appearance. This follows closely on the discovery of a large Olmec
style bas relief of three felines found a few days earlier at the same
site.
INAH has the report here (in Spanish) with a slide show of the
monument. (Click on the tiny "fotos" link at the top)
