This reminds me of the caution given a friend of mine by his medical
doctor. He had developed some {*filter*} clots in his legs, and the doctor told
him that while he was on coumadin, he should stay completely away from
Vitamin E. As in aspirin and Vitamin E, the effects are completely
different. Coumadin interrupts the clotting cascade, whereas Vitamin E
simply lubes the exterior of the RBCs, making them less likely to clump
together. It's two entirely different mechanisms.
What's absurd about the MD's caution is that Vitamin E can reduce or
eliminate the need for this drug with dangerous side effects (internal
bleeding) without affecting prothrombin time at all.
