I dont know if this is the right newsgroup for this but,

I am following Dr. Andrew Weil's 8 weeks to optimum health. I am taking the
antioxidant{*filter*}tail which includes 400i.u of vitamin E. He also recomends
that people at risk for hearth disease follow a low dose regimen of aspirin
(80mg) a day. I want to add Ginko Biloba to this{*filter*}tail as well. What I
needed to know is, would it be dangerous to combine Ginko Biloba, Aspirin,
and Vitamin E? I have heard that this combination would negatively affect
{*filter*} because they all do the same sort of thing to the {*filter*} by making it
less sticky.
Please post or e-mail me
Thanks,
Chris

Unless you are very prone to bleeding easily, there is no problem.
They are all rather weak clotting inhibitors and furthermore ginkgo
biloba in particular also strengthens capillaries and makes them less
leaky and likely to bleed.

I don't take the aspirin anymore, but I take 800+ IU of vitamin E of
various forms plus 200+ mg of ginkgo plus many other clot inhibiting
nutrients (eg fish oil) daily with no ill effects. In fact, any cuts
that I get close and heal very quickly and I don't bruise as easily as I
did long ago.

Make sure the you get some gamma tocopherol as part of your vitamin E.

This reminds me of the caution given a friend of mine by his medical
doctor.  He had developed some {*filter*} clots in his legs, and the doctor told
him that while he was on coumadin, he should stay completely away from
Vitamin E.  As in aspirin and Vitamin E, the effects are completely
different.  Coumadin interrupts the clotting cascade, whereas Vitamin E
simply lubes the exterior of the RBCs, making them less likely to clump
together.  It's two entirely different mechanisms.

What's absurd about the MD's caution is that Vitamin E can reduce or
eliminate the need for this drug with dangerous side effects (internal
bleeding) without affecting prothrombin time at all.
