Need info on gluten intolerance

 Need info on gluten intolerance

I'm seeking usenet(s), web pages, etc on gluten intolerance related
subjects (including celiac sprue, tropical sprue, gluten-free recipes,
gluten-free ingredients, gluten-intollerance support groups, etc).

I'm also interested in contacting persons with celiac sprue/tropical
sprue ("pen" pals via the 'net, etc).

I'd also like to contact medical experts in this field (easier via the
'net).

Finally, I'm interested in finding out about current research taking
place on this topic.

My girlfriend has experienced the symptoms of celiac sprue since before
she was 17.  After seeing dozens of doctors with various expertise and
even having a surgical exploration the cause of her problems remained a
mystery.  The personal research done by her family finally found a clue
in a newspaper article.  A couple of years ago we tried testing a self-
diagnosis by changing her diet.  Since then, we have NO doubts that she
has celiac sprue (and that her father's death was probably influenced
by the same).  I agree that a self-diagnosis is usually a very bad idea.
But, in this case, it is definately accurate (and her personal physician
agrees 100%).

I'd appreciate info sent to me via e-mail.  In the event that others are
interested, I will post a summary of these e-mails to this usenet.

Thanx in advance...

There is a very high incidence of certain HL-A (tissue-type) in
coeliac disease - I forget which.  You might look up Medline on
this - mid 1970's  (one author was A.G. White, try in "Tissue
Antigens").  If she was positive for this tissue-type it might
help confirm.
