Elevated CPK?

 Elevated CPK?

Do any of you Lymies have an elevated CPK?  CPK or CK is creatine
phosphokinase a muscle enzyme that if found in the {*filter*} signals muscle
deterioration due to muscle disease.  I have many of the lyme symptoms
but have tested negative for lyme (yes I know tests can be wrong) I
would just like to know if anyone else here (with diagnosed Lyme) has
had an elevated CPK.  Would like to converse.  Thanks.

 Elevated CPK?
Hi Larry,

You might want to check the "Road Back Foundation" about treatments
that are targeted (and more methatrexate and prednizone oriented) for
a rise in CPK.

If you do a search here, Art has made a good list of articles related
to myoisits and ploymyositis and lyme.

My dad had a rise in CPK which turned out (after biopsy) to be
ploymyositis, which, is rare and of "unknown etiology".  Well, years
of prednizone, no improvement in symptoms but stability of cpk, he
turns out to have two PCRpositives for Bb.  Finally, got him on IV for
lyme and within two and a half months the CPK had remained normal and
the methatrexate and prenizone had been totally withdrawn.

Then, the stupid infectous doc. back home in Minn. (his LLMS's were in
NY) withdew the antibiotics (not even orals were followed up) and
within one week, yes, one week, his CPK went from 65 (normal range
45-300)to 1209, then four days latter to l506.  In addiiton, for the
first time the liver count went from (normal range 55) 112 after IV
withdrawn and then 118.

So, in this example, it would seem Bb was the cause of the initial CPK
rise and ploymyositis.  And, IV was able to control it and bring it to
normal range.  When IV was withdrawn and no follow up antibiotic the
whole disease process started up and accelerated within one week.
Amazing.

So, how high is your CPK?  Over what time was the rise?  How often has
it been high---what's the pattern?

If you have taken steroids to control the cpk you know you might not
have antibodies to give you positive serology for Bb.  Once dad got
off steroids he began having positive bands and equivical results on
multiple lab's Western Blot test.

Why else Larry, do you think you might have lyme disease?

Feel free to e-mail me privately.

Deborah
