14th International Scientific Conference on Lyme Disease & Other
Tick-Borne Disorders
Day 1 - April 23, 2001
Neurologic Lyme Disease: Defining and Treating an Elusive Target
Brian Fallon, MD, and Harry Goldhagen
"Dr. Pietrucha highlighted the following recommendations:
1. Do not assume that Lyme is causing an encephalopathic problem. There
are many static encephalopathic problems in children, for example,
attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disabilities,
obsessive-compulsive disorder, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, and
Tourette's. In the majority of cases, Lyme disease is not causing the
disease, but it could be making it worse. Avoid jumping to conclusions."
