 Sleep problems and aids

Is anyone else using Ambien for sleep?  I was on .25 Xanax for over a year and
it worked great.  Once I got on antibiotics (2 weeks ago), it stopped working.
Even .5 doesn't work.  I also tried Klonopin, which used to knock me out and
make me a zombie until 1:00 the next day.  Now it doesn't even make me drowsy.
The only thing that seems to work so far is Ambien, but it only gives me a
solid 6 hours (which is 6 more hours than I get without it!), but then I'm
awake, no matter what.  Anyone else have the same experience?  And do you know
anything about Ambien that I should know?

I also find that Benadryl wires me.  Am I strange or are there others out
there equally as strange?

In response to the below quoted message:  We are all a little strange, in our
 own way.

I have recently started taking Ambien.  It takes 10 mg. and yes, it only works
for about 6 hours for me too.  But its a good six hours.  I used to use
Benadryl, but I think if you use something like this enough, you will become
intolerant to it.  Just a thought.  Good luck with the Ambien, but be careful,
as most sleep aids can be {*filter*}ive.

Hi Janis,

Has Melatonin come up in this thread yet ? Does several things
well for you. Super killer of free radicals, plus a major sleep aid.
Available otc.
Take about an hour before bedtime.                                                              All the best, Steve.

I agree with Barbara. The body has a "negative feedback" system
concerning many bodily chemicals like hormones. In other words, when
it senses a sufficient amount already present, it shuts it production
down further. If one already has a low output, and takes {*filter*}
supplements, it's possible to cause the body to think it's doing just
fine and shut down even further !

Now I'm not entirely fanatical about it -- I'll take them occasionally
(like DHEA for instance) when I feel there's a specifically indicated
bodily need, but I'll try to stay away from them if at all possible.
