Need info on multiple myeloma treatment

Need info on multiple myeloma treatment

I am facing the prospect of a Peripheral Stem Cell Transplant.  I really
have no
information on prior results, anticipated effectiveness, dangers or other
factors
that will help me with my decision.

I am working with City of Hope, and I understand that this is their
typical treatment rather than a bone marrow transplant, but I don't really
know if that is
the straight scoop, or just avoidance.

HELP!  Can anyone provide any info?  My situation is urgent!

There's a HEM-ONC listserv that includes multiple myeloma, they are very
helpful and supportive.  Here's the URL for information
http://www.lsoft.com/SCRIPTS/WL.EXE?SL1=HEM-ONC&H=SJUVM.STJOHNS.EDU
You can search the archives at
http://cure.medinfo.org/lists/cancer/index_fs.html.

Hope this helps and good luck.

The results with stem cell transplantation indeed look very exciting.
The French research group recently compared stem cell transplants with
chemo and favored the former over the latter.  Stem cell transplants
offer significant advantages over bone marrow transplantation, so I
think your doctors are on the right track.  There are some good sites
for internet info on myeloma--have you checked out the International
Myeloma foundation?  H2
