 Serious Web site on "alternatives"

I have been searching for a serious Web site on these so called
"alternatives" to surgery, chemiotherapy, or radiotherapy for cancer.
Of course I found so many sites that broadcast "miracle cures",
usually inviting to send money somewhere. What I did not find was a
site where open-mindedness is balanced by some sort of hard scientific
judgement. Any ideas?

Try
www.quackwatch.com

Of course the loonies don't accept that it displays "open-mindedness is
balanced by some sort of hard scientific judgement", but most of them would
have difficulty peeling a grape.

Try  http://www.sph.uth.tmc.edu/utcam/ .  This site gives lay
reviews of many alternative treatments as well as scientific
reviews.

Quackwatch is an excellent site, perhaps the best at explaining what alternative
therapies have no scientific basis and which ones might.

Why bother.  All you'll find there is one-sided hatchet jobs, relying
mostly (if you analyze them instead of being snookered) on irrational
associations of the thing or person being discredited with ridiculous
or unpleasant red herrings.

Like their association of the discoverers of Laetrile with moonshiners,
even though the association was by way of their doing contract work
for the Government.

Not so, at all!  Why GRAPE THERAPY is one of the more promising new
forms of alternative cancer therapy.  But of course there is no reason
to peel the grapes - a lot of the important phytochemicals are highly
concentrated in the skins.

IOW, John doesn't like the truth about many altmed therapies being
exposed.  But instead of careful refutation, all he offers is ad
hominem.  A case of sour grapes?

'promising new'   !!

I log back here every few months looking to find anything new. But I
see the same broken records promoting quack methods and stuck in a
time warp.

'promising new'.  Well if you look at page 96 of JAMA 139(2), jan 8
1949, 93-98  (yes 1949) you will see a discussion of the Brandt
'faddist' and her book 'The Grape Cure'.

I think that in the 50 years since then we should have had some
definite answers. Don't you? I mean don't you ever stand back from
your writings and look at them from a distance?

Chemotherapy was not yet developed in 1949. Since then it has proved
itself and become solidly mainstream.
