 initial symptoms:lung adenocarcinoma

I have seen a number of posts on this type of cancer.  My boss was
diagnosed in August with I believe a type 2 status.  They removed her left
lung and she has undergone radiation and 4 months of chemo (VP16 and
Cis-platinum).  I was curious if anyone could share what the initial
symptoms are and what could be the cause and how common is it.  Any info
would be helpful.  Thanks very much!

If there were definitive symptoms, many more lives would be saved. My wife
underwent, earlier this month, her fourth primary adenocarcinoma lung
surgery. Something of a record. A lobe was removed in each of the first
three surgeries and a resection (partial lobe removal) was done this time.
Six years ago, she developed a dry cough. This prompted a routine x-ray
which disclosed a spot on the lung. A CAT scan confirmed a tumor and surgry
was done. Her next three adenocarcinomas, over a period of some five years,
were discovered only because her physician and surgeon insist upon CAT
scans every six months. Small (Type T0, and T1) highly curable tumors often
do not show up on x-ray. Therefore, the CAT scans.
As to the causes; 85% of all lung cancer patients are/were smokers.
Chemoprevention of NSCLC is focussed, obviously, on reducing tumor size and
preventing recurrence of new primary tumors. The only advice being given
informally by many oncologists to {*filter*}s who do NOT have cancer, is the
daily use of 1000 to 2000mg of Vitamin C.
Some prevention benefits were noted in the early 90's in animal clinical
trials designed to determine if Vitamin C was effective in tumor  reduction
(It was not.)
As the funded trials were a failure, no further work has been done in this
area. The "prevention" aspect was accidently identified but, to date, other
investigational {*filter*} have taken all available Trial funding.
1000-2000mg of C is considered safe in healthy {*filter*}s, as excess Vitamin C
is not stored in the body.
Hope this helps answer your questions.

My symptoms were a morning cough with {*filter*} in it. Otherwise I felt fine. A
chest Xray showed a "shadow", {*filter*} tests, sputum tests, bronchoscopy were
all negative. A CAT scan showed the tumour.
