 Well, what's the answer then?

If all cancer centers are horrible, should we just curl up and die?
Personally, I PUSH until I get what I want. It's MY body, why should
some Dr. care about me? I am the only one who can insure that I get
the care I need. Nobody returns phone calls in my experience, you have
to be a persistent pain in the butt. If you were famous - you would
get more attention. Regular guys like us, we have to fight for
treatment. I have spoken to 3 cancer centers in the past week, and I
have dealt with 3 different centers in the past two years. Nobody will
take up your cause and fight for you - only you. You are your own
advocate. If you wait for the Dr's - you might as well forget it. I
have to do my own research and bring it to the Dr. myself. I want to
live. I am a {*filter*} cancer survivor of almost two years and I have
just been diagnosed with primary Lung cancer. I have two very young
children - one 18 months and one 5 years old. I am NOT 60yo!! I want
to live and I am pushing as hard as I can. I have switched Dr's twice
in the past two months, and I'll do it again if this one slows down.
My chances are abyssmal and I will not accept that. We need to stick
together and insist on being treated and insist on not being pushed
aside - get in their face! I live in Florida, but I just may end up in
NY because they are not willing to do angiogenesis at my Dr's office
and I'm afraid it's my only chance. Don't get discouraged by the
medical PROFESSION. After all, we are paying for their Mercedes and
Swimming Pools. They need us!

Patricia,

Most Dr's care because that is the business they are in.  Are there some
that are
just in the profession for the money, probably.  But I doubt most of them
survive the years of school, sleepless nights of being a resident not to
mention
mountains of bills before they ever see that mercedes or swimming pool.  Is
being an informed patient the best thing you can do for yourself, absolutly.
Here is where the line is drawn, informed shouldn't mean jumping at
every news headline that claims cancer has been cured with a little magic
pill, cause
no cancer has.

I assume you are referring to the  Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center?  I suspect
that your Dr is unwilling simply because the {*filter*} have not finished
clinical trials.  If you feel that strongly that this is your only hope then
you should talk to your doctor about applying for some the trials currently
underway.   http://www.***.com/

Only you can decide if going the trial route is right for you.  There are
lots of promising {*filter*} that never make it out of Phase III trials beause
the great results just don't hold up when used in the larger group that
typically makes up Phase III.

I doubt that anyone who is told they have cancer says to themself, well
that's it I can just laydown and die.  My mother who is 73 want to survive
this just as much as you.  She wants to enjoy the retirement she worked 40+
years for, see all the places in the world she hasn't see and watch her god
children grow up

I wish you the best of luck in your fight.

Patricia,
If your chances are miserable (your quote) and all that is left to you is
chemotherapy which will make you more miserable just maybe the doctors are
acting in your own best interest...after all they get paid whether they can
cure you or not. Given that in very advanced cancers there is nothing
chemical that will help reduce the tumours and all of the {*filter*} will have
harmful side effects maybe you should try being a little radical and just go
for feeling as good as you can. You are just as likely to get a spontaneous
remission (more so) if you are feeling well and can eat and drink and rest
and enjoy quality time with your family.

 Well, what's the answer then?
Finding the right doctor can make a large difference in patient care. All
doctors have different training and specialised training that can be
specific for your particular disease.

Switching physicans too many time can result in bad patient care but I can
understand with what happens when people get upset. Imagine going to a
different barber everytime expecting to get the same haircut..It just is not
going to happen.

Doctors aren't super-human and talking to them about treatment never
hurts.Even complaining about thier office staff doesn't hurt either...Most
never relize what thier nurses are doing bad stuff until someone
complains...

Communication is the key to any well formed relationship even the
doctor-patient relationship.

Thanks

Dan
