"The Mummies of Peru," a live webcast lecture with National Geographic
Society Explorer-in-Residence Johan Reinhard.
Relive his discoveries of Inca children sacrificed to mountain gods 500
years ago.
WHAT:
Unwrap the secrets of the past with the world's leading high-mountain
archaeologist, Dr. Johan Reinhard. His expeditions have taken him 22,000
feet up into the Andes searching for clues about the ancient Inca
civilization. He made headlines worldwide when he discovered the frozen
500-year-old sacrificial remains of a young Inca girl. Her story was
featured in National Geographic magazine in June 1996 when the Ice Maiden
also made her {*filter*}space debut on the Society's Web site. Tune in to
"Live...from National Geographic " to find out about additional artifacts
and human remains Dr. Reinhard uncovered in a return expedition to Peru as
well as what can be learned about these discoveries from state-of-the-art
scientific analyses.
WHEN:
Two lectures and webcasts will take place Thursday, April
3, at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. EST.
