I've just begun to see a new dentist, and I would very much like to have some sort of yardstick as to dental cost. For example ... what is the "typical" cost for an exam and full x-ray set? Thanks so much. sdn ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ sharyn november

If you expect an answer from this newsgroup....forget it...seldom will a these dentists give a straight answer or advice. It's suggested as ethics but my impression is it's pay...they won't do sumtin' for nutin'...they may get into a lawsuit... Hell, they went to all those years of school..why give it away! Then there are the real nuts cases who suggest mercury fillings or chlorine are poisoning all of us. And lastly, there are the jerry seinfelds , who should have done standup but went into dentistry because of their parents and it was a good way to get girls.

If you think this is true, then you haven't spent much time here on SMD. Steve asked the question that had to be asked in order to give a useful answer. He never got an answer. It takes a special kind of professional to want to spend time here exchanging ideas and talking with the public. Out of thousands of dentists in practice worldwide, we have perhaps a dozen who care enough to be here regularly; and you give them crap? Quote: > Then there are the real nuts cases who suggest mercury fillings or > chlorine are poisoning all of us.
Yep: We got those types here! Quote: > And lastly, there are the jerry seinfelds
And those too! , who should have done standup Quote: > but went into dentistry because of their parents and it was a good way > to get girls.
Don't know where that came from. Vaughn

Actually, we do give away advice. I thought long and hard about the question and quite honestly I cannot come up with an answer. I have at least 500 different fee codes for different insurance companies ... ranging from groveling to way too much cash! True, true. Quote: > And lastly, there are the jerry seinfelds , who should have done standup > but went into dentistry because of their parents and it was a good way > to get girls.

Well, appears you are getting no figures. So, from my last "typical" bill: 00150 Initial exam 46.00 00274 bitewing x-rays 4 films 25.00 00230 periapical x-ray first film 10.00 00230 " add'l film 5.00 D3320 Root canal(2 canals) 575.00 04341 Scaling/quad 150.00 01110 Prophylaxis 52.00 No insurance...cash. SE USA City of ~ 100,000 Private GP office est 20 years. So that's fairly typical I would imagine. Location,location,location..? Pudge Quote:

Sharyn-- I charge $30. for an initial exam, $60 for a full mouth series of 14 PA films and 2 bitewings. I'm in Brooklyn, and I get the sense that's low-average. Manhattan, of course, will tend to be much higher. Steve Bornfeld Quote:

Maybe I did get into dentistry because of my parents.....my dad is a retired trucker/farmer. It wasn't to meet girls since I was already married. <G> SWF DDS Quote: > andy
