 African American dentists?

Hello!

I am taking a course "African American Experience" for my undergrad
diversity requirement this semester.
For our final research paper, I am writing a paper about African
Americans in dentistry.  Yeah, it does really interests me!
For those of you who are African Americans applying or are already in
dental schools or are already dentists, please give me some of your
thoughts about this.
For those of you who are in dental schools, please give me a number of
African Americans or minority students in your class.  This is just
for statistical purpose, trying to see the difference in numbers
between Ivy Leaguers, private school and public schools.
And for those of you who has done similar researches, some inputs and
directions is much appreciated! ;)
I wonder if Affirmative Action is applied in the admission process in
dental schools.

Thanks a bunch, guys and gals!

oh btw, I am going off to dental school this fall myself.  Wish me
luck!

 African American dentists?

Not that this will help a lot, but in my class of 160 students, there
was one black male and one black female (UMKC, 1979).

One story with that was when we were seniors and the supply companies
would sponsor trips to the Chicago Mid-winter meeting.  We all road up
on AmTrac and stayed in the same old down-town hotel.  Anyway, we had to
pick room-mates.  I didn't have one picked out and the pres. of the
class came to me and said that Arthur wanted to go (the one black male),
but didn't have a room-mate.  I said to tell him that he has one now
(me).  Later that day Arthur found me and said, "Brunker told me you
could use a room-mate in Chicago."  I said, "Yeah, I haven't paired up
with anyone yet".  Then he asked me a question that has stuck with me
for 22 years,
"You really don't mind?"

I saw him at our 20th reunion and he is doing great somewhere in Mississippi.

Best wishes,

 African American dentists?
We had (I think) three African American students out of 120 in 1984.

I think Maris and Dan had a "few" Caucasians in their class.

 African American dentists?
Thanks guys for your help!
This is something else I found on the ADEA website:
www.adea.org/DEPR/Assocreportdec2000.PDF
It's a report in Adobe Acrobate format, an interesting reading.
On page 6, it states that among the 55 dental schools, half has one or
no blacks in their student populations.
A pretty sad fact.  But I think ADEA and schools have given efforts in
bringing up the underrepresented minority populations up in dental
schools.  There is still more works to do tho!
I am glad the school I'll be attending has a pretty diverse student
population.

Thanks again.
