 Best painkiller for post-surgical pain?

I don't know if any {*filter*}surgeons subscribe here, but I thought I'd
ask this question anyway.  This week, I'm having all 4 of my impacted
wisdom teeth removed and I'd love some opinions on painkillers.
Demerol, Percocet, Lortab, Tylenol with Codeine, there are so many.
Which should I ask for?  I've heard good things about a relatively new
drug called Vicoprofen, which is 7.5 mg hydrocodone, 200 mg ibuprofen.
Any experience with this drug out there?  I've also been told that the
best opioid {*filter*} for dental pain are oxycodone and hydrocodone.  Any
opinions on that?  Thanks!

Matt

Vicodin, worked fantastically well me after a surgical extraction.
Seemed much stronger than Tylenol #3.  Absolutely no pain, just have
to lay low, which you have to do anyway to avoid dry sockets.

surgery for them.  Any opinions on pre-operative anesthesia.  Which is the best
way to go?  I was told I may be on IV.  Must admit am a tad nervous about the
whole ordeal.  Am receving horror stories and what's the big deal stories.
Thanks.

Our current RX in our office is Ibuprofen 600mg and Vicodin. We give both Rxs
to uor patients. They all seem to do just fine. Vicoprofen is also a great med.
but the other two together (alternated) work great.
Hopes this help!

I don't know what you're implying there, but I've done some Web
searches and I posted to alt.{*filter*} with the same question.  I don't
pretend to be an expert just because I can throw a few drug names
around.  Having never taken anything stronger than Advil, I was
concerned about side-effects and effectiveness, and decided to do some
research.  The advice in alt.{*filter*} seemed good, but all types of
people hang out there, from junkies to pharmacists.  I figured a group
like this would have more experts in the dental and {*filter*}surgery
fields.

I hope that clears things up for you.

 Best painkiller for post-surgical pain?
Hi
It would seem from the Dental literature which is not as clear as it might
be that your best bet is:
A combination Opioid and Non Steroidal anti-inflammatory before the op(Your
Vicoprofen would be fine). Post op you should be considering just the NSAID
(Ibuprofen 400mg taken every 4 hours ON THE CLOCK for 3 days.) Trick is to
keep the pain at bay rather than cure it once it is there. Acetaminophen
1000mg every 4 hours in alternation with the NSAID ie NSAID then 2 hours
later Aceto then 2 hours later NSAID etc is also an idea if the ibuprofen
doesn't cut it alone... unlikely.
Remember to check all the contraindications before taking any {*filter*}.
Good luck

They gave me vicoprofen and meprozone for pain, and methylprednisolone
for the swelling, pennicillin to prevent infection.  so far, so good.
I've home for only a couple of hours. i took 2 meprizone and they
knocked me out pretty well.  i guess the v-profen is for the less
serious pain later on.  had some pudding with meds to prevent nausea,
i feel great.  i'm typing with one hand and holding the ice bag with
the other!  thanks again, everyone, for all the info and advice.

I had Fentanyl (Sublimaze) for mine. Worked fine.

I was sent home with Tylenol #3s. wish i would have had Percocet
though.
