In my experience,

Procera crowns work very well for anterior teeth, however porcelain
fused to metal crowns (I prefer alloys without nickel) are very durable
and can be made with a porcelain {*filter*}margin for excellent esthetics.

For posterior teeth, porcelain fused to metal is the most dependable
crown that "looks like a tooth".

No filling can absolutely prevent a tooth from fracture.  One type of
filling (and more importantly the design of that restoration) may lessen
the chance of fracture over another in any given situation.
