Some Orthodontists will harm your child for money

There are many who care nothing about your child they just want to get their
hands on your money. Children are being harmed everyday in this country by
orthodontist and dentist who are pulling healthy teeth and restricting normal
healthy jaw growth.

Sounds like my plumber.  Come to think of it, sounds like lots of people.
Get a good referral, and get over it.

hi, parentof{*filter*},

sorry to hear about your bad experience. i can only agree with you that people
need to be very careful in choosing orthodontists for themselves and their
children (and the same comment with doctors, regular dentists, ... especially
where health is concerned)

sometime ago, i asked for a recommendation from my regular dentist and was given
the name of an orthodontist who after a very brief consultation visit (no xrays,
just visual exam of my teeth) immediately informed me that he will have to pull
at least 4 of my teeth and that he *always* pulls teeth to have enough space. i
immediately asked him what if the teeth are healthy etc and that did not seem to
concern him at all. somehow, it did not compute to me how this was supposedly for
saving my teeth when good teeth will be pulled for no reason to save the rest of
them and that the main concern was to make space for teeth to line up.

so i decided not to pursue that orthodontist and probably would not have
undergone orthodontic care had i not met someone who was undergoing orthodontic
"care" without any teeth pulled. after the exam/consultation with the 2nd
orthodontist, he told me he does not see any need to pull any teeth since i had
my wisdome teeth removed. he was able to fix the most crookedest teeth (they were
almost horizontal!) that i have (victims of overcrowding toward the front). i am
very pleased with this 2nd orthodontist -- finished with my treatment and just
going for the once a year followups -- and i can really say he is definitely of
the disposition not to pull any teeth, v.s. the first one i saw who assured me
that he will have to pull teeth for any of his patients.  i guess i was very
fortunate to meet my orthodontist and still use my retainers (i know they are not
fun o wear but i just have to wear them at night now...)

good luck and hope things work out for you.
sincerely,
wanda, erehwon, u.s.a.

p.s.
while i was undergoing ortho, another person at work approached me to ask me
about my experience. he then told me that the biggest mistake he had was to let
the orthodontist pull his teeth since now the teeth spacing is getting bigger and
he lost his retainers and they cost a fortune to replace...

When plumbers harm children they go to jail , when dentist do, nothing happens
to them.

Clearly a red flag.  "Sometimes", yes.  "Always", no.

You did well to get a second opinion.

Red flag? how about honesty? Is being honest a Red flag to you?

The red flag is treating patients with a "cookie cutter"
approach--always extract, never extract.  I think SWF was clear:
"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds"--Emerson.

I have no idea what you are referring to.  I stated that the
orthodontist's comment: "I *always* extract four teeth to get room." was
a "red flag" for the patient and that he was wise to get a second opinion.

That isn't honest?

I have to agree with that some dentist do pull teeth that they should not pull
just because the orthodontist orders it done.
Although I think a lot less are as bad as you say.

Just because you *may* have found *one* does not mean that there are
"lots".  Certainly this in not true around Kansas City, and I can't
help  but wonder why KC would be better than the rest of the country.
