Post the post you regret the most for having posted

Is it possible for us to recall the most offending post we ever put
into Usenet?

If we could all agree to share the one post we most regret having
tossed into the archive, maybe we could symbolically burn that error
of our ways and move on.  (It might even be a series of posts for some
of us.)

Other than doing something like that, we can't begin to erase what is
done.  Words "heard", or in this case words "read", go into the minds
of the readers/listeners forever.

The maleffects of gossip are endless.  Once we say it... it is heard.
And once it is heard it will be remembered.  What do we do about what
is in the past and is better off left alone and in the past?  If it
was heard with ears, never speaking it again will lessen its progress
into the minds of others.  But when it is read by eyes from a place
where it was put onto paper or into electronic format such as what you
look at on your computer monitor, its impact is far more reaching.

I am often ridiculed for being too philosophical for the group's
interest.  We need to realize that Usenet is a responsibility.  I have
participated in throwing some punches around these parts when push
came to shove.  And I have been responsible for warning people not to
push me because I push back if I think it's important.  Sometimes I
can see what others can't because I look with my eyes, not theirs.
And sometimes the others see what I can't for the same reason.

We have much to do as an online society as we wrangle this new
frontier.  If we wrangle it in a power play, we need to know why.  If
the power we all seek is that of peace and harmony, that is a power I
can fight for ... and if it is about the search for various truths, we
all have to be willing to put up with some unpleasant times now and
then because "believers" tend to fight to the end when they believe
the truth has not been revealed.

This thread was meant to be humorous and I understand that.  Since
comedy is such a useful mechanism of language as we learn to laugh at
ourselves, then so be it.  But when the laughing is over we have time
to reflect.  This post is meant to have occurred in the time it was
quiet inbetween the laughing.

I hope you appreciate my intention.

Sincerely,
Webby

Or, we could all pull names out of an electronic "hat" and then go
check Google for THAT person's most offensive post.  Seriously, I have one
or two posts in mind that I would love to take back.  At least one of them
was posted right here on smd, but that is as far as I will go.  I don't
think I will drag them out in front of the group for the same reason that I
try not to pick scabs.

A very nice and honest post Vaughn. I think we all have ones we would like to
take back, after all we are just human.

That's life and I think everyone understands. What I don't understand is the
ones that do it repeatedly on purpose.

That's what causes the flames.

I was going to go first, but Vaughn beat me.  I won't do a google search,
because I don't want to post the whole thing.  My post was during the
post-election mess was{*filter*}was contesting the election results.  I was very
rude to Vaughn, and I have regretted it ever since.  So, Vaughn...a year later,
please accept my apologies.

Seriously, I have written so many posts that I wish had never left this
keyboard .... but many were not rooted in evil as many proclaim.

In fact, sometimes two words ... or even a single word .... is the cause of
other's pain. The single word was not written in judgement, it was not
written in contempt. Yet by this one word, reputations and deeds of a
lifetime will stand and fall.

In person, this Eichen is a mightily crafty individual. I can see how my
interlocutor is responding ... perhaps before he/she even knows it
himself/herself. That is good. We are all well-meaning, devoted, highly
thought of Creatures.

We are only here to help one another; make no mistake about that. Dentistry
is a wonderful profession, for we help others. But we also serve ... those
who lie in wait ......

This time of year is a special time, but also a very trying time ... for
those whose existence has been battered about by others. Let's all be there
for those people ... throughout time ... and throughout space.

Yes I too have posted trash ... posts, paragraphs and yes ... even single
words.

I pray that those who have been harmed will see that the intent was not that
at all.

Cheers,

Joel M. Eichen, D.D.S.

Post the post you regret the most for having posted
Frankly, it must have bothered you more than it did me.  I remember
some rather heated (and fun) OT conversation back then.  Political
conversation is really dull when everyone agrees.  So there is really
nothing to forgive.

Some of the "Bush or Revolution" rhetoric (not from you) that was going
around then really bothers me and will influence my politics for the rest of
my life.

Allow me to take this opportunity to mention that I will be rare for
the next few days as Margaret and I do some important Christmas visiting.  I
might drop in now and then via Google but will not have access through my
usual Usenet server.

Regards:
Vaughn
