 I am out!!!!!
Dear colleagues: This newsgroup was 'fun' for a while and I have had my long absences. I have recently picked up some mails that disturb me. This group might have started out in a pristene manner but it now takes all manner of BS from the 'less than well informed' and those idiotic posts become the fodder for continuing debate. I'm gonna go watch Ophra for some real substance. And a classmate of mine recently quit because he was too good, too qualified and mostly too honest for this group. He is Michael Herndon. I know that guy from dental school, and he is maybe too honest for this group. Now I have aged into that same state of honesty. Both Mike Herndon and Mike Garrity will visit from time to time to see what is being fomented, but I doubt either one of us will see anything of substance to keep us here for more than a parting shot. In that the group has done extremely well (pfffhg) without us, I doubt we will be missed. My input might have been fluffy, but Michael Herndon's would have knocked your socks off. His accomplishments and efforts make me want to become better myself. And I had the exact same teachers (undergrad) that Herndon had. But he took it to a much higher plane of both expertise and ethics. (Yes, I know that those latter terms are 'relative'. Relative to your training, practice, experience and personal code.) Michael

Don't leave! THis newsgroup needs to get back to the good ol' days of patients asking questions and dentists answering them, rather than all this biased bashing. If you leave, other dentists'll leave, and there goes the newsgroup. Please stick around. This place used to be soooo informative.

Did it ever occur to any of the folks showing up and dentist-bashing that the reason this group had existed for so long was that it was a decent place for patients to ask questions and get thoughtful answers? That if you had started some kind of other newsgroup with your views, people who were interested would show up there? You could have had a little thoughtfulness towards other people than yourself (the other patients). Maybe the anti-amalgam folk will turn out to be right. I doubt most of the people who visit here (dentists and people with chronic dental needs, like me) would have been averse to thoughtful, respectful presentations. But since scimeddentistry is like a "virtual dentists office" did you think all this attacking would do anything but disrupt what the patients visiting it were seeking?

I think this is very fair and to the point. I notice that Joel isn't here. Very unusual. Not that I miss the majority of his posts which are obsessive, but I do wonder if he is OK? Anyone know? Jan

Agree with everything you have said. SMD once was a wonderful place to visit - I loved coming here! I learned so much! Very saddening to see what has happened. Appreciate your input and Micheal Herndon's as well. Perhaps someday things will improve. I've resorted to using the 'blocked senders list' and I find that this helps when I do visit. Thanks for posting. Regards, Marian
