I'm having my four wisdom teeth extracted this week and would like to know
how to make it less painful.  Any tips?

Thanks

Hi,

You could consider having the extractions done under IV sedation.  Or
you could opt for general anesthetic where they put you totally under.
If you are referring to after the extractions, you might take the pain
killer before the freezing comes out.  Pain killers seem to work better
when they are taken before the soreness begins.  Try to to rinse too much
after the procedure because you want to avoid rinsing the {*filter*} clots
out.  This might also reduce the chances of a dry socket (an increase in
pain).

I believe this is acetaminophen in the U.S. Acetaminophen has not been
shown to decrease post operative discomfort when taken preoperatively
in any well controlled study on dental pain that I am aware of. The
non-steroidal antiinflammatory {*filter*} will though. Before taking
anything prior to the surgery, discuss it with your surgeon.

The latest I've read ({*filter*}Med-{*filter*}Surg-{*filter*}Path) indicated that
perhaps we should recommend that they gently swish 0.12% CHX after WT
exos (even during the first 24 hrs). A recent study indicated that it
reduced the chance of dry socket in test subjects including smokers and
women taking OC's.
