Gum infections can be of two types. Peripaical and periodontal.
Periapical arise around the roots of teeth, while periodontal are
around the supporting structures or periodontium.
In addition, there are various sorts of inflammatory problems, but
infection specifically means presence of bacteria.
There are many different treatments, depending upon the cause. The
infection could take from 3 days to 12 years to clear up, depending on
whether or not you have it treated.
The main thing that you SHOULD do, is to consult your friendly dentist
for an expert opinion!
PS - The infection will eventually go away all by itself, with
absolutely no treatment. So will the teeth!
