Are people more obsessed with their teeth now than they used to be? Especially
with how they look?

Why are more people obsessed with clothes, looking thin, wearing Nike shoes,
etc ... the answer is the same. There is also more that can be done
aesthitically now than there used to be

I perceive patients to be sillier than they used to be. What does a lady now
in her 90s want with cosmetic whitening? I observed this case and didn't
have the nerve to ask!

My plan:

Attack cavities first as they will lead to root canals and tooth loss if not
addressed. Afterwards, look at cosmetic issues. Patients want it the other
way around!

Cheers,

Joel

My take is that it is all because of the media. Similar to the DOT COM
nonsense,
the media can create desire .....

Why does an old has-been dentist like you, haunt this and many other news
groups offering incoherent Babble-on advise, that was neither asked for, or
needed? Huh Old broken down, OLD 70 years plus Joel?

>Cheers,

Honestly I think it is good that that lady in her 90s was concerned enough
about the way her teeth looked to come and see you.  Yes it is true, cavities
are the first priority, but if maybe a comment from her granddaughter about her
yellow teeth made her think of coming to see you, I think you should take that
as an opportunity, not a sign of silliness.

At this point, she probably didn't realize there was anything more wrong with
her teeth.  After all, she kept them until her 90s as other people her age lost
theirs.  Now she suddenly realized there was something wrong.

I say treat both concerns, including educating her about how important cavities
and other basics are, then continue to give her what she wants in aesthetics
afterward.  And of course discuss with her how long it will take, which things
are more important to do first, and how much it will cost.

You are really not impressing anyone.
Why don't you just go away?
