Just spoke to a Periostat rep.  Found these interesting stats and points of
information:

1.  Price of Periostat averages 43 bucks for a months supply (60 pills) in
the Philadelphia suburbs.
2.  75% of insurance plans cover it.
3.  50 % of periodontists have written scripts for it; 66% of general
dentists
4.  Many dentists do not understand it is an adjunctive therapy, not a cure
5.  Some periodontists are using (though not recommended at this point by
Collagenex) it as an adjunct
    after surgery.
6.  Many dentists do not understand that it doesn't have antibiotic activity
7.  Many dentists do not understand the rationale for BID dosing
8.  Many dentists do not understand that it is best evaluated by number of
sites improved vs.
    SRP alone and not at a specific site.
