sensitive tooth near front teeth when brushing

Hi guys,

I've recently noticed that the tooth to the left of my two front teeth is sensitive
when I brushing. I looked at it and there is a slight discoloration near the gun
line and if I touch that directly it hurts. Any idea what this could be? Is it
cause by brushing too hard? I brush twice daily.. don't flosh as often as I should,
but rinse before brushing with Listerine often.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Marcus

It could be any one of a number of things which might include gum recession,
decay, thin enamel, missing enamel, chipped tooth, tartar, {*filter*} clot,
surface stain, etc.

Go get it evaluated by a dental professional (in person) before it becomes a
big problem.

Good advice to go and see a dental professional, but whenever I've mentioned
anything similar, the dentist (seen 2 due to relocation) always says, 'well
I can't see anything wrong' or similar, and the tooth has been sensitive at
the gumline on one side for a couple of years (no fillings in the tooth
yet). Toothpaste for sensitive teeth doesn't help either.

I find that for hypersensitivity of this type, a couple of applications of
5% NaF varnish (Duraphat, Colgate Palmalive) usually gives good relief.

Not everyone will agree with me,,,,,, but I would start with an NTI device
and rule out clenching and bruxism.  Assuming that there is no visible
pathology.  Only a dental professional who evaluates you in person can make
the proper decision.

sensitive tooth near front teeth when brushing
I would use an ultra soft toothbrush and brush on an angle up from the gumline instead
of a scrubbing motion. Sometimes sensitivity toothpastes help as well as a fluoride
rinse
(availible at the {*filter*}tore) Some of out patients find this helps. good luck!

I do grind my teeth in the night sometimes, but not on the sensitive tooth.
I can rarely seem to get a comfortable bite when my teeth drop together when
I go to sleep. The dentist has said the overall bite looks OK.
