 Sleep Apnea Questions

Is this usually diagnosed after spending the night in a sleep clinic?

If so, wouldn't one first contact one's physician for a referral to such a
clinic?

If diagnosed with sleep apnea why wouldn't one's physician provide
treatment?

Under what circumstances would one contact one's dentist for sleep apnea
treatment?

I saw a picture of a dental sleep apnea aid that looked like a set of clear
acrylic night guards, an upper guard and a lower guard that were connected
to one another by rods on both sides.  It was intended to keep the lower jaw
in a position that would cause the wearer to breathe properly.

Does wearing a night guard or a set of night guards restrict the flow of
saliva?  cause bacteria to be trapped on the teeth/gums overnight?  have any
impact on the individual's mouth relative to decay?

I read somewhere that sleep apnea contributes to high {*filter*} pressure.  Is
this true?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

There are some Sleep related newsgroups that have discussions about apnea
too.

Hi Scoops,
Thank you so much.  I've been looking around the sites you provided and
following the links.  There's quite a bit of information available and it
may take me awhile to get up to speed.  There is a central NJ group that was
of particular interest - I'm hoping that I will be able to attend their
meeting tomorrow evening.
Best Regards, Marian

Marian:
How did the Central NJ AWAKE meeting go?  I was chatting with Rochelle,
the coordinator of the group, in email about the meeting.  She's a great
lady!
Hope to hear back from you soon.

 Sleep Apnea Questions
The most prominent Usenet newsgroup is alt.support.sleep-disorder.  There is
also alt.support.narcolepsy, among a few others where sleep disorders are
discussed.  Then there are _many_ email discussion lists devoted to various
aspects of sleep apnea, as well, for both professionals and the general
public.

It was very interesting and well attended - there were at least 40 people
there.  I had no idea that sleep apnea was such a serious matter.  Picked up
some literature and will begin to read up on it.  Have a lot to learn!
