Pegasus Imaging Corporation announces the beta release of version 2.0 of the
PICTools Medical Compression toolkit with final delivery scheduled for July
17th.

PICTools Medical is the ONLY comprehensive set of image compression
technology designed specifically for the medical community, stated Jack

PICTools Medical combines 5 high speed image compression technologies
including lossy JPEG, lossless JPEG, and wavelet compression to provide
C/C++ software developers a  FDA 510(k) compliant development toolkit. This
toolkit includes support for real-time video compression and playback in
software  for ultrasound and cardiology CINE video. For telemedicine
applications, PICTools Medical offers a high quality 16, 12 & 8 bit
grayscale wavelet compression. With the growth of the worldwide $1.2 billion
dollar PACS/ telemed  market expected to continue at 20% growth a year,
PICTools Medical is a key component in image storage and transfer within
PACS and teleradiology systems. Licensed by major PACS/telmed providers
including Applicare, DeJarnette,  and Worldcare; PICTools Medical
specifically compresses X-RAY, MRI,  PET, Cardiology and Ultrasound images
to reduce online transfer time and storage requirements using industry
tested technologies.

Enhancements to this industry accepted development technology include
support for 24 bit color lossless JPEG compression and 12 bit JPEG greyscale
lossy compression.   Advanced enhancements to the wavelet portion of the
development toolkit allow for progressive wavelet compression and
dial-a-compression settings where the user can target a specific output
size and progressive display.  Since Pegasus specializes in high performance
imaging engines, the new 2.0 version of PICTools Medical will include
several speed enhancements including Intel Pentium II MMX and Pentium III

platform imaging support.
