Beta Blockers/calcium blockers
I don't think you'll find that one is necessarily better than another.
My cardio recently put me on Toprol XL for HBP. Used to be 140/90
range, now 120/70 range with no apparent side effects. I did try a
number of ACE's but had side effects. After years of taking Pravachol
he tried to get me to switch to Lipitor and I had severe muscle cramps
in my calves from it - so back I went to Pravachol.
I've recently had a few episodes of afib and quickly converted by
taking cardizem, with no side effects. I'm not a doctor but get the
feeling that some doctors do like to prescribe newer {*filter*} that tend
to metabolize in a more efficacious manner than older medications.
Maybe someday there will be one or two medications that will take the
place of the dozens that exist today....
