Yup, couldn't hurt. BUT, if she also has low HDL and high triglycerides
(familial combined hyperlipidemia rather than simple
hypercholesterolemia), I suggest you read a copy of "Protein Power" by
Dr. Eades and consider the low-carb alternative. Otherwise you might
frustrate yourself and waste time discovering that a low-fat, low-chol
diet doesn't help at all, and/or your doctor might put her on a drug
that works but is controversial -- and do you want to be on a drug
anyway if you can avoid it?
Sorry to keep harping about the low-carb alternative, but... I've been
there, done that, and it bugs me when it is not mentioned as a reality
for certain hyperlipidemias. If you want details, send me email.
Oh, and even for hypercholesterolemia, it's not a sure bet that low-fat
is the right answer. See what the Chairperson of the Department of
Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health had to say about this
