 verapamil and irregular heart beat

What is the general effectiveness of verapamil in suppressing symptomatic
PAC's.  My doctor just put me on 240 mg. since my PAC's were quite often
and were driving me crazy.

Any thoughts out there?

DQ,

Hi!  I have been on 240mg. verapamil for about 3 years now with
wonderful results!!  Not only is my BP greatly reduced, but I hardly
ever have PVC's anymore and when I do, they don't last for days...maybe
20 minutes at the most!!  The only problem I've had with the verapamil
is water retention for which I take dyazide every other day.  I feel
better than I have in years and I don't have panic attacks like I did!
I had problems with panic disorder for almost 20 years...the attacks are
very manageable now!

Any other questions, feel free to e-mail me!

I have been on Verapamil for 7 months (along with Rhythmol), and have been
very happy with the results. Incidentally, if for some  catastrophic
reason  your  heart went into Atrial Fibrillation, with beats pulsing from
150-180 per minute,as mine did last september, in the Emergency Room they
would likely give you the same intravenous dose of 3 cc's of liquid
Verapamil, which restores a normal sinus rhythm within 3 minutes. This is
a different form of the drug, not like the 240 mgm tablet that lasts 12 or
24 hours, depending on  the patient's requirements.

Keep up the good work!!

I took 480mg/day for awhile (6 months). It is a heart slower not a rhythm
fixer and is a really safe drug although the accompaning constipation can
be annoying.

I was on the verapamil for 5 days.  Didn't do a thing.  Actually made the
PAC's worse.  So I went off and back on the beta-blocker I was using.
Actually I found out some info. that since I get these PAC's as often as
I do and since they are symptomatic they can possibly do a radio
frequency ablation on them.
