CAD risk factor with hi ldl's and moderately hi triglycerides

I was changed from mevacor and lopid to lipitor only in July. At that time my
hdl was running between 45-58 and tris between 77-85, after 6 months of lipitor
my hdl is between 45-47 and tris between 85-218. my total chol. in April was
214 and in Dec. 221. The only significant change was to my way of thinking in
the rapid increase in triglycerides. I approached my internist with this and
the response was tris were'nt a problem at this level. OH! Well the severe
muscle cramping with thlipitor was definitely a problem for me,  for no real
improvement as far as total cholesterol, and I prefered to go back to lopid and
mevacor. I got that across, but my Dr. was less that happy with my insistance.
I have over the past few days been on the web printing out any thing I can find
on hyperlipodemia and the relationshiup with elevated triglycerides and the
possible effect on CAD and it appears to be relevant. I try darn hard to take
care of me and let the bricks fall where they may.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

There is a fairly high incedence of inflammatory muscle problems with the use
of statins and gemfibrozil together, so your doc was probably justified in
being cautious.  If you get any muscle pain or weakness on the combination, get
evaluated promptly.  There is a muscle enzyme test called a CK that would be
elevated in that situation.
TG's ARE important since they can reflect other metabolic problems.  Be sure to
