 Ileitis and Colitis Foundation?

I don't regularly read this group, so please forgive me if this has
been covered...

I may not have the proper name for the group, but I believe it is
correct.  I suffer from Crohn's Disease, and have heard of this group.

If this is the proper name for the group, and can anyone put me in
contact with this organization?  If not, can someone please point me
to the right people?

About every two months or so, someone posts a note about Crohn's or
other Inflammatory Bowel Disease or info asking/telling about the
{*filter*} used to treat IBDs.

I'm wondering if there is interest in getting together a mailing list
of IBD people (sufferers, MDs with interest in the area, pharmacists,
and other interested people).

To judge the interest, let me know by e-mail, and I'll post an anonymous
summary in about two weeks (that is to say that contents of replies will
be posted, but not respondant's names).

 Ileitis and Colitis Foundation?

With all this discussion of smoking/nail biting being habits/{*filter*}ions,
I was wondering if biting of the nails/skin on the fingers might be
passed on in the genes from one generation to the next.  We've had skin
biting (mainly on the thumbs) three generations in my family.  There is
no fungus/bacteria (I saw a doctor) that makes the skin irritated,
though it is usually dry and sore.  I met somebody who bites several
places on his hand up to the wrist, too.

If enough people are interested, of which I am one (have had Crohn's for

years...etc), a vote for a new group (sci.med.IBD ?) might be in order

I've seen people that tape up their nails so they can not bite them.
I bet putting something bitter on the places you bite would tend to curb
the habbit also.

I was going to suggest Bitter Apple, but Dan Jacobson did so first.  Which
is okay with me, since Angelyn Williams said it didn't work.  8-)

I've never bitten my nails, but I used to have a nervous habit involving
picking up knicknacks, pens, pencils, or any other little thing nearby and
twirling it around in my hands.  I was never bothered, but it drove some
other people stark raving mad.

Anyway, I got a set of hand-grip-spring thingies% (these are two handles
with a spring between them, and you squeeze the handles together against
resistance from the spring to strengthen your hands), and whenever I
noticed I was picking things up I would put them down and get the grip
doohickeys out and squeeze them.  Not only did it give me something to
do, but after about 50 or so repetitions my arms would get sore & tired,
which 1) distracted me from my nervous habit, and 2) kept me from picking
up anything else.
------
% - sorry for the technical language.  8-)
------

I don't know all the particulars about nervous habits, but it does seem
that it would be difficult to bite your fingernails while squeezing.
