A special note about LymeNet #10...

WARNING --
Please note that LymeNet issue #10 contains a full-issue analysis of Dr. Allen
Steere's "The Overdiagnosis of Lyme Disease," a paper that was presented in
the April 14 issue of JAMA.

This issue is counter-indicated in patients who:
1) Highly regard the reputation of JAMA.  Upon reading the analysis, they will
second guess their opinions of that journal.
2) Are disciples of Dr. Steere; for their dreams will be shattered.
3) Subscribe to 1982 treatment and diagnostic protocols; for the facts will
disturb them.
4) Are afraid of the truth.

Reader discretion is advised.

I read Steere's article, and found it scholarly and consistent with my
own experience.  His is only the most recent of several papers which
have come to the conclusion that most "chronic Lyme disease" is really
fibromyalgia, by the way.  Sigal's paper documenting his similar
experience with children comes to mind.  I've never understood why
"chronic Lyme" activists don't embrace the idea that they might have
something else which is more easily treatable.  Instead of tilting at
windmills, why not see a fibromyalgia expert?  The bottom line is that
it might make you feel a whole lot better.  No email, please.
