Immune system: Sci Am special issue

The current (Sept) issue of Scientific American is devoted to the immune
system, and includes articles on autoimmune diseases, infectious
disease and the immune system, allergies, immunotherapy, and several
other topics.  I've just skimmed the allergy article... it has some
interesting information on anaphylaxis and a good photo of a
"wheal and flare" reaction from an allergy test....

Is there anyone here on internet  etc  in contact with SA ?
If so ask the top brass to put SA on CD rom and price it so
 the masses can afford it....  $ 30.00 - 40.00

If 100 million PC Users try to find the cure for cancer
we will have a hell of a better chance than currently !

I did notice that they have put a SA index on CDROM, goes back about 50
years or so...  $49.  DOS, Windows, and Mac versions available.  Seems
like the next best thing...

The index is also available on 3.5" diskettes for
UNIX, Mac, PC Windows, or PC DOS platforms.

A special issue of SA Medicine is also available
on the newsstands now for $4.95.  Trouble is, a
subscription to the magazine (especially for physicians)
is $210 even for the student rate.  Ouch!

It turns out that these are two different things. For reasons
only SA may know, there's SA Medicine the magazine, which is
on newsstands, and SA Medicine the looseleaf textbook with pages
updated regularly (I understand they also put out a cd-rom). It's
the latter that costs oodles.

Hey, let's keep things in proportion. A subscription to SA Medicine - a loose
leaf text that is the equivalent of a major medical text with an updating
service *may* be $210. This is not the same as a sub to Sci Am.

The Special Issue is of Sci Am I believe.

The Index is a separate issue & is, I think good value.
