 Transdermal Nicotine Patches/Dreams!

Hi, I'm new on this group. Just wanted to post an interesting experience
I've been having with my Habatrol Nictotine patches.

Dreams:

We're talking the most increadable/real/vivid/detail/etc dreams I've
ever had. Starting the night I put on my first patch, dreams. I can
feel, touch, taste, smell, read techinical manuals, take instument
readings and make the appropriate adjustments (these last three were
when I was dreaming about this car I'm rebuilding).

I suppose when people say they are having out of body experiences, it's
dreams like these.

Jeez, even if I don't end up quitting smoking, the patches are worth the
price just for the amazing dreams! (But I'm doing excellent on them, not
one smoke since I started three weeks ago - I'm going to make it this
time).

Just my 2 cents.

Vivid dreaming is a common side-effect of wearing a nicotine patch.
Such dreams are usually harmless and won't affect sleep/rest.

Here's some completely anecdotal information that wasn't available
to me when I quit (no one I knew had tried the patches):

During the first three weeks that I used transdermal nicotine patches,
my dreams were so vivid that I woke up exhausted every morning from the
physical exertion required by the "adventure movies"!

The test sample results printed in the adverti{*filter*}ts for the patches
(I'd saved one torn from a magazine, since it had _all_ the fine print)
stated that...uhhh...can't remember now if it was 1-2% or 2-4%...of
test subjects reported "abnormal dreams". Despite this number, I
decided I'd blame my dreams on the patches, too. ;-)

In my small sample (six people who tried patches after I did), 100%
reported the same incredibly intense dreams you just described. Four said
it lasted about two weeks; one said it passed in a week. I think the
duration is possibly related to body weight: the one-week guy was
pretty heavy, and I weighed 97 pounds. _Then_.

Patches contain a fixed dosage of nicotine, so it made sense to
me that I had slightly more acute "side effects" than others. For
example, I could taste the nicotine within 10 minutes of putting on a
fresh patch, and was very slightly nauseous for the first two days I
used them. I also had a definite increase in perceived body temperature --
I no longer needed extra blankets at night in summer. Chalked that up
to improved circulation, knowing nicotine has a vasoconstrictor effect
sometimes.

It was definitely worth it! I've been smoke-free for almost eight
months now. Good luck with your effort -- if it helps, there are
actually days that I _don't_ think of cigarettes at all. ;-)

Many people on the 24 hour patches have extremely vivid dreams.  It is
not unusual for people to dream about smoking; the dreams seem to be
more often pleasant or neutral than nightmarish.

Enjoy the eyelid movies.  Great good luck with quitting - its a tough
habit to break but it can be done.

                                       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You obviously haven't worn these puppies then :-).

The first week on them, I woke up about 7 or 8 times a night.
I usually wake up MAYBE once.  I would say that they deffinately
do affect sleep/rest. But it does subside after awhile.

I don't know why they don't tell you more about that in the
package insert.  They could suggest going to bed earlier or
something. No warning really isn't fair.

Not that it's THAT big of a deal or anything.....
