 Medical terminology ?

I received a correspondence from my physician.  There were two phrases used
that I'm not sure of their meaning.  Perhaps someone can enlighted me.

1.  I wanted Dr. xxx to "clinically evaluate" you.
2. You do not have "organic disease" of the perpherial nervous system.

Thanks is advance.  If possible a direct rply would be appreciated.

1. "Clinically evaluate" is a fancy equivalent of "taking a close look at".

2. This may be a bit difficult for laymen to understand. (My excuses if you
are offended by the term 'laymen'.) An "organic disease" is *not* a disease
involving an organ of the human body. An "organic disease" is something that
results from or at least result in anatomic changes. When a doctor says you do
not have an "organic disease", he or she means you either have a "functional
disease", you could have an organic disease but he or she has failed to find
it, or you are truly disease-free. A functional diasease, in turn, means there
is no noticeable problem at the gross anatomic level, but only at the
physiologic or biochemical level.

Hope that helps.
